My first Blog

Hello, I'm Gage. I was born and raised in the frigid state of Alaska. I have always enjoyed what the Alaskan outdoors has to offer. Although, admittedly, the winters are getting more demanding as I get older and I find myself slowly drifting towards being more of a home-body. I spent five years in the military and am now using my GI bill to further my education and am working towards a Mechanical Engineering degree. I hope that one day I can use this education to work on a big project, hopefully something that deals with space!

My relationship with music it completely inter-twined with my life. I like to consider music the language of emotion and think it should be used much more often to help connect any subject in a more in-depth manner. I have dabbled in playing the guitar for about half of my life but am not very proficient at it. I have always thought it would be cool to be able to read sheet music, but never have taken it upon myself to to learn. I think that the foundational information I'm currently learning in the Explorations in Music course is exciting because it is entertaining to be able to better identify the different elements of music.

Hurdy-Gurdy Evolution: Strings Across Time The Hurdy-Gurdy has always been one of my favorite instruments, providing rich notes and chords with a continuous drone that was sure to have parties going all throughout the night for centuries. It is speculated that, "... it was the Moors of North Africa who introduced this musical instrument to Europe." (Ancient Origins, 2019). Vindicated: A Musical Analysis

"Dashboard Confessional - Vindicated" ( dshbrdfn8 [content creator] , Youtube, 2:58/3:22) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVKULdVfwTI Vindicated, Dashboard Confessional - Chris Carrabba (2004, USA) To be honest, until I looked into the creation of Vindicated, I didn't realize/remember that this was written for Spider-Man 2 with Chris Carrabba telling MTV, "...Do I get to see the movie early?... I'll absolutely do it." (MTV, 2004).  For me the full song with a band of instruments accompanying the vocals (although still great) doesn't resonate with me. It was actually the solo that Chris Carrabba did for the Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 2004 of Vindicated that has earned a place in my heart, and I often find myself going back to it just for inspiration. His performance that night soaring to a height that is visible, nearly tangible, and chilling every time I watch it.
